Twelve things Petal and Feast would like for Christmas / Our Gift List

December 5, 2023

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

The Petal & Feast girls were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads…’

And what would we like to see stuffing those stockings? Just in case anyone was wondering what to get us here at Petal & Feast HQ, we’ve compiled a quick list.. You never know!

Moleskine Weekly Notebook Diary/Planner.

With lots of planning going on behind the scenes at the moment, we’d all be lost without a good diary and this is the favourite! Hannah, Sally & Amber all get the same one, and we constantly mix them up. This one has a double page for each week – dates one side and a page for notes and lists opposite – it’s the best one!

Nice Wool Socks

We need a good pair for tucking into winter boots when we’re stomping about up at the field in the winter. These lovely Exmoor Socks from Arbon Socks are pretty cosy and come in loads of great colours.

Seeds!

Ahh the dormant potential, the promise… Packets of seeds are like treasure, we are very greedy with them. So finding some tucked into a stocking would be a very gleeful moment. We like Higgledy Garden and Chiltern Seeds. Both come in lovely pretty packets and do some really nice varieties.

Linen Bedding

Getting into bed with freshly washed sheets is the best. But what if they were fancy linen sheets. We’re all coveting some Piglet in Bed linens, bonus points for Gingham too!

Petal & Feast Spring Workshop Voucher!

What do you buy someone who already has lots of lovely things? An afternoon of floral faffing with us, of course. All the tea and cake you can eat, plus you leave with a lovely living spring wreath – perfect for your Easter Sunday dinner table or door – you choose. Saturday 23 March 2024, each place is £75 includes all you need to make your wreath, refreshments and a glass of fizz. The perfect gift for Christmas (or even Mothers Day). Drop us an email to book and follow us on instagram and keep your eyes peeled here updates of other Petal and Feast Events, workshops and high days.

A Gorgeous Cookbook (or two)…

The P&F Kitchen wouldn’t be complete without a handful of Ottolenghi Recipe Books, we also love anything by Claire Thompson or Anna Jones. Our own Sarah Lawson is a cookbook aficionado, with actual hundreds of them! This Christmas she is asking for ‘The Dinner Table’ –  Ella Risbridge & Kate Young and is cooking loads  from ‘Roast Figs, Sugar Snow’ – Diana Henry

Restaurant Vouchers

What could be nicer than going for dinner at The Pig Hotel, super foodie and loads of their menu is homegrown. Plus they have lovely wallpaper. Yum! (Also they do the best Bloody Mary)

Fancy fabric something made by the wonderful Sarah Burns Patterns.

Take your pick from lovely fabric, cushions, accessories – even a workshop (we do love a workshop). All hand printed and naturally dyed by our lovely friend Sarah just down the road. She’s been in Country Living, regularly pops up at Charleston Farmhouse and can make dye from almost anything.

Handmade treasures from The Makers Barn, Petworth.

We ran a day of Christmas Wreath workshops from the giant table at the back of Rosie’s shop at the start of December. Set in a proper, old stone barn which sits at the end of a dirt track in the middle of farmland –  it’s crammed full of ceramics, baskets, knitwear, sheepskin rugs and wooden carvings.  Everything in there is made by local crafts people and honestly you could take your pick – it’s all lovely. If you really can’t decide though, you can buy vouchers.

Really Good Snips

We always need a good sharp pair of secateurs to hand, either for cutting stems at the flower field or foraging in hedgerows for the perfect bit of Hazel. It’s so satisfying when they are extra sharp – we get our bucket of snips regularly sharpened at our local farmers market. We have been eyeing these up though!

Johnny’s favourite Smoked Trout

This comes highly recommended from our very own Johnny. It’s what he would buy you if you’d just had a baby, and what he would eat at his birthday party! Very posh.

A Short Course at West Dean

If you haven’t noticed already we love a workshop or course at Petal & Feast, it’s a proper treat to go and learn something new – just turn up, have a go and leave the mess to someone else. We’ve been to quite a few together over the years! We’ve always dreamed of doing one of the lovely short courses at West Dean though, printmaking perhaps? You can even sleep over and have dinner. Hannah and Amber will be there in the new year, brushing up on their ‘No Dig’ gardening knowledge with a lecture from Charles Dowding. I’m sure a wander in the Walled Garden will be on the agenda too.

We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for some of these but maybe you’ve been given a few ideas for your nearest and dearest.

Oh, and don’t forget to leave a mince pie and a tipple for Father Christmas, a nice bottle from our very local award winning Wiston Vineyard perhaps?
