Nestled down a quiet country lane, tucked in at the foot of The South Downs, The Secret Barn is a ‘proper barn’, on a proper farm. A relaxed barn wedding venue in Sussex; full of charm, this authentic old threshing barn is the perfect setting for couples looking for character and soul rather than a ‘showroom’.

The Secret Barn is a fantastic, flexible space. Set in a beautiful location, complete with a paddock for camping, a licenced orchard or ancient barn, perfect for your ceremony, a lawn for daytime canapé-ing and night time toasting of marshmallows or whiskey sipping round the firepit.

Effortless and fun; it is the perfect space for you to hold a great party. Think trestle tables, garland lights, delicious sharing feasts, flickering candles, cocktails, star gazing and tumbling seasonal flowers. The Secret Barn

The party barn, the main event… A proper barn, where your dinner will be served at trestle tables and where and after a swift turn around, you’ll have your party, and dance the night away. Our big, beautiful barn is full of all the rustic charm you’d expect from a real barn and is the perfect space for feasting and dancing.

We love it all the more for its cracks and creaks and hope you do too.

The Ceremony Barn

Sparrows and butterflies fly in and out of our ancient ceremony barn; strung with thousands of fairy lights, it hosts many special gatherings. With birds nesting in the corners and on the ledges, and original beams high above, the ceremony barn is so old, it has a country church feel, there are even some bumble bees who have made their home under a floorboard. The benches line up like pews and sunlight shines down through a cobwebby old window onto ‘the aisle’, fill it with flowers you have the perfect place for your ceremony

The Orchard

Full of old apple trees, with moss and lichen on their branches; covered in blossom in the Spring and heavy with apples in the late summer. Couples dreaming of being marries outside under the open sky choose to place benches on the grass and have their ceremony there. A doorway through the old brick wall acts as a perfect backdrop for an outdoor flower arch for a grand entrance or backdrop for your ceremony.

What We Offer

The original Secret Barn Summer wedding hire; make the most of our barns and outdoor spaces. Throw the doors open onto the terrace and lawn and sit round the campfire, dec the barn out with flowers, invite all your friends and dance the night away, heck you can even add camping for the full on ‘Secret Barn Summer Wedding Take Over’ experience.

We are by no means a wedding factory and have no intention of turning this lovely little slice of Sussex in to a wedding conveyor belt. We offer some weekend dates and occasional Summer midweek weddings.

twinkly twilight weddings

As the evenings draw in for autumn and winter, the barn really starts to glow in the dusk and into the night. It looks so cosy and inviting and we think it’s just too good to keep to ourselves.

Perfect for couples looking for a more intimate gathering of up to 50 guests, this feels like a great big dinner party with all your favourite people. Twilight Weddings are available weekends between the end of October and the middle of April and a few midweek days in the summer.

Cosy up with your nearest and dearest for supper, drinks and dancing. The barn doors will be shuttered against the dark and a million billion fairy lights and candles twinkle into the night.

wedding ceremony & canapes

Looking for somewhere lovely to say ‘I do’? Our beautiful licenced barns and orchard make the perfect place to come and make it official, have some drinks and canapes before heading off into the sunset, married (and full of canapes!).

These are generally available midweek in our ‘high season’ or weekends out of season.

Yes! We can do a pay bar all day or just after dinner. We can chat to you about the different options.

Yes! You can be legally married at the barn – or you can choose to have a celebrant, friend or family member conduct your ceremony.

We have lots of covered areas so please don’t worry about that.

The Secret Barn is home to Petal and Feast and we are the sole caterers and florists for the barn.

Yes, we do a few mid week weddings

Oh, *blushes* – thank you! Yes our loos are lovely – so nice we might get them licenced for wedding ceremonies too.
