This time last year we were booking plane tickets, sorting out rabies jabs, reading guide books, and getting excited about our India / Sri Lanka adventure. I blogged the India trip a while ago and then things got hectic and the Sri Lanka leg got left on the back burner. With this dreary weather I think a look at all this sunshine and blue is just what we need.
We back-packed our way through the mountains and tea plantations, watched blue whales popping up for air and thousands of dolphins dancing in the waves, the children washed elephants, released baby turtles, and got blasé about swimming with them. They drove rickshaws properly, (on actual roads), ate rice and curry and tropical fruits til they were stuffed. We road the rails, and squished ourselves into buses that stopped at shrines, for a quick blessing to aid our safe drive down the helter-skelter mountain roads (it must have worked as we were all fine, Boom Shiva!). We hung out on beautiful beaches and played in warm turquoise sea. It was pretty good. So – here we go folks, I give you Sri Lanka! Where will the next adventure be? I actually don’t know myself yet… but I have heard good things about Cambodia and Northern India is really pretty special.
Your kids are true back packers experiencing things that most children and adults won’t ever get to see. They don’t teach that on the school syllabus. The colours are so amazing, beats Farrow and Ball paint charts. Happy DIY next year? X
