Carrying on with our brilliant wedding supplier interviews, we chatted to Jo Thorne. A Brighton based photographer who has known Hannah for ages and ages.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Graduating from an editorial photography degree way back in 2008, I started shooting weddings back in 2011. One of my first weddings was for Hannah (Petal and Feast!) in the church just up the road from the Barn in 2012! Yes, I really am that old and yes I really have been shooting weddings for that long! I live in Brighton with my 14 yr old son , Otis and our Ewok ( shitzu) , Moppy. I sea swim (when there’s no sewage) and I have an obsession with roses. Music and nature are my absolute medicine. 

What do you love about our Secret Barn couples?

Secret Barn couples have a love and appreciation for the countryside and nature. Working with the seasons and all the beautiful produce and flora that are around, they tend to be relaxed, friendly and informal- my kind of people. Generally there are always quite a few kids at Secret Barn weddings as the venue is safe for them to be feral and free – many of whom I love to photograph. I love working without too much of a plan and seeing how the day unfolds which suits the SB as we often go with the flow of the weather, seasons and light. All of which are welcome! On a good day, the light is beautiful across the fields. 

What’s your favourite thing about the Secret Barn?

My favourite thing about the SB is that it actually has childhood memories for me. I used hang out there as a child as I knew the family that lived on the farm. It’s a very special place. I feel at home there. Growing up nearby, I love the surrounding countryside. It has my heart. I also love the Petal and Feast girls. We always have a laugh!
