*jingle jingle* It’s the time of year when all of the Petal & Feast women suddenly realise that it’s almost Christmas and there’s some gift buying to do. There are all the less exciting things to get (lego/headphones/money – delete as appropriate depending on the age of your kids) and then there are the countless treasures we inevitably see that we would quite like to buy for ourselves, but can’t, being now bankrupted by the purchasing of lego/headphones/money.
So our festive good deed is to share our rather tasteful list so that any of you gift-buying-challenged folk can steal our ideas and win hearts and minds on Christmas morning. Or like us you can just moon over the nice things you can’t have!
Number One – Lovely pyjamas! Who wouldn’t want to spend all of the Christmas holidays softly wrapped in some cosy pyjamas? And look at the sweet collar on these ones from Taco. We rather fancy a set each, in the full tonal range, stripe, houndstooth etc for the next Petal & Feast holiday getaway, for the bit in-between Christmas and new year, when you’re wearing your new PJ’s all day long, you’ll probably need one of their lovely blankets too, really.
A Flowery Book: ‘Outside In’ by Sean Anthony Pritchard We all follow Sean’s gorgeous instagram account, his book looks equally lovely. Lots of seasonal, flower filled, maximalist interior inspiration. Growing and foraging tips. Right up the Petal & Feast ‘more is more’ alley.
Opinel no12 Saw.
This little folding pruning saw looks like the perfect thing to pop in your pocket before a wintery walk. Just incase you see a pretty branch to put in some water on your table obviously. This present pairs well with our flowery book option.
A trip to look at some good art.
You’d have to drag Hannah, but Amber and Sally would love a day in an art gallery. There’s an exhibition to commemorate Turner’s 250th birthday at the Scottish National Gallery in January ‘Turner in January’. Lovely atmospheric landscapes. It’s quite a way from sleepy Sussex, so would sadly have to involve a little trip to Edinburgh (oh no, what a shame). Entry is free though (so nevermind the cost of the airbnb and train).
‘North Woods’ by Daniel Mason
You need at least one good book under the tree. What else will you do when you’re cosied up in your new PJ’s after that wintery walk plundering picturesque foliage. Amber will be reading North Woods a tale about a single house in the woods and the people it encounters across four centuries.
A Bucket o’ Salt. We love to have a big bucket of Maldon Sea Salt flakes in the kitchen at work. Johnny has taken a liking to them too and now receives a traditional birthday bucket each year. A perfect gift for anyone who likes to cook. Available at catering suppliers but also: Amazon!
‘The Farm Table’ by Julius Roberts A seasonal cook book with tasty, honest food and tales from life on a family farm. A perfect recipe book for our own farm kitchen.
Last up – the Le Creuset Shallow Casserole: This pan is the best shape, prepare for it to be the only one you use from now on, forever and ever, (so actually very reasonable). We particularly like the mustard colour and the bright green.
So, ho ho ho… we hope it has been useful and that you have found just the perfect gift for someone here. Have a lovely time everybody!
